Black Belt Missions - "God has a plan for us ALL"
Alabama’s Black Belt is named for its rich, black soil. For hundreds of years, this region across lower Alabama, was the agricultural hub of the state. Today, it is a region of poverty and despair with limited resources and few educational opportunities.
Brookwood has been serving in Alabama’s Black Belt since 2004. Our ministry began by assisting Henry and Sandra Ford(More Than Conquerors Church) with their monthly medical clinics but quickly evolved into many other areas. In previous years, we have held clothing drives, supplied food banks, taught vacation bible schools and reading camps, sponsored athletic teams, led sports camps, provided prom dresses, helped high school students with summer jobs and housing, and assisted high school graduates with college needs.
Brookwood currently has many ongoing mission projects in Wilcox County. Through a partnership with Wilcox County Commissioner John Moton, we are seeking to be more strategic in our missions in the future. We desire to meet not only the temporary physical needs of the residents of Wilcox County but to help permanently shape them from the inside out.
“While we all recognize the value and command of Christ to help the less fortunate, if you can teach a person to strive to be all God has created them to be, well then...you can change the path of their future!” states Amy Causey. In June of 2010, we hosted our second sports and reading camp in a new location - Wilcox County High School in Camden, Alabama. We over 200 children - our largest numbers yet.
All of these ministries and more continue today in Alabama's Black Belt!
