Builders for Christ ...with Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone.
In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. EPHESIANS 2:20-21 Who are we?
We are Christians who love God and love you. We are ordinary people — representing different Southern Baptist Churches across the country — who God uses in an extraordinary way.
What do we do?
Just as Habitat for Humanity builds houses so that families can grow, we build buildings so that churches can grow. We partner with young, vibrant churches that are constrained by financial resources and help them design and build facilities to better serve their communities. We donate the planning and labor, they pay for the land and materials, and God orchestrates all our offerings to construct more than just a building…to build His Church…a community of truth and love… a “Habitat for Eternity.”
Why do we do this?
Love. We believe that training for Heaven begins on Earth. Our lives have been transformed by the joy, peace, and love that is available to everyone, right here and right now within the community of God. We want to share the abundance of life we have enjoyed with those who are lonely, stressed-out, overworked, under-appreciated, ostracized, ignored, or condemned…with those who are searching for meaning, searching for purpose, searching for something more to fill them up. By helping young churches grow, we can share the Good News of this abundant life with those we may never have the opportunity to meet.
When did Brookwood begin its participation in Builders for Christ?
In 1981, a special committee approved the undertaking of Brookwood's first construction mission project at Adamson Baptist Church in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, which had outgrown its worship area. That summer, a crew of 36 Brookwood volunteers constructed a 25 x 40 ft. addition to ABC's sanctuary, as well as an adjoining 40 x 75 ft. educational building. In the years that have followed, Brookwood's Builders for Christ have led construction mission projects in many locations: 1981 Adamson Baptist Church (Adamson, Oklahoma)
