Living Hope at Christmas: Day 10

27Dec

Hello Brookwood!

We are currently on the way to the airport but wanted to fill y’all in on our last day in Cape Town! We started off the morning at living hope headquarters hearing from one of pastor Blake’s good friends Vela. He shared his testimony with us and it was very special to hear about how much living hope, Blake, and the Lord have transformed his life.

The nurses (and Amy) of the group then got to visit the healthcare center to assist the staff and meet patients. All of the staff were a perfect example of having a servants heart and being the hands and feet of Christ. While the nurses were nursing, the rest of the group got to continue hanging out with Vela and made cards for the local firefighters in Cape Town. There have been some intense wild fires in Cape Town and the firefighters have been working tirelessly. As we got to the airport we got the news that it is raining in Cape Town which came out of nowhere and is such an answered prayer!

Then we all reconvened to the township of Masiphumelele to work with the cooking mamas. Cooking mamas is an amazing Living Hope program where volunteers cook to feed the community and provide for child led households. The boys have all learned some new culinary skills and we all got to serve meals to the children of Masi. After serving, our team walked through the township which was an eye opening experience for all of us.

We traveled back to sacred mountain to pack and eat dinner there for the last time :(. We had an extravagant South African braai (kinda like a BBQ) with Austin, Kelsey and Audrey Keim!  Avril and some other friends stopped by to say our last goodbyes. We also said a sad goodbye to our driver Frans at the airport.

We are so so grateful for this group, the wonderful people we have met, and for the opportunity to serve in Cape Town. We have grown so close as a group and have made memories to last a lifetime!! About to board the plane so see y’all soon!
Love Carley and Caroline (but mostly carley)
